We spent our Anniversary (which happens to also be Valentines day) lunch in this beautiful little restaurant. We went there on a wing and a prayer and boy did our prayers get answered. Far from the usual mountain of plain pasta and overcooked meat that is all to common in Sicily, Hosteria del Vicolo provided a refreshing reminder of elegant food. Well presented dishes, perfect portion size and creative flavours served by polite and professional staff in an intimate and sophisticated environment. Nino is the owner and front of house and is the perfect restaurant host, the chef Antonio Gelone has won numerous awards and competitions and is recognised as one of the best chefs in the area. Not cheap but worth every penny, a big thumbs up from us!
Cappelino turned out to be a real hidden gem. In this family run typical trattoria you are greeted by Salvino who will inform you of the select quasi fixed menu which varied depending upon the catches of the day from the port. Salvino’s mum, wife, sister and son; work away with skill and care in the small kitchen to prepare what we experienced to be an exceptional meal. In the intimate and interesting surroundings of one of our favourite restaurants in Sciacca we enjoyed a range of local antipasti, some perfectly cooked pasta and as a main shared a huge and delicious Sea Bass, prepared with a light tomato and onion salsa. Fresh food well prepared, hearty portions and friendly traditional surroundings.

Andrea and Marissa are the husband and wife team behind what is in my opinion the best restaurant in Cianciana. Predominately a pizzeria they also serve a small food menu of pasta and fish. The restaurant itself is a feast for the eyes, a beautifully restored palazzo with a walled garden, various intimate eating areas and a lively atmosphere. There are some creative items on the menu and this is a great place for large groups, parties and couples alike. Great pizzas and friendly staff make this our regular local eatery.

This quaint eatery is well worth a try, the main dining room doubles as a museum to the old milling house which once occupied the space and the walls are full of interesting artifacts. The fare is great quality and as traditional as you will find anywhere. Local produce, oils and wines served in plentiful portions. The food is very reasonably priced and for around €30 per head you can have a set menu of 5 or 6 courses and wine, certainly enough for even the largest appetite. This combined with a family run friendly establishment and interesting surroundings will ensure a pleasant and memorable evening.

This lovely restaurant was our first stop in Palermo, just up the street from our hotel. It is situated in one of the prestigious parts of Palermo near Via Principe di Belmonte and close to Teatro Massimo. Despite it being 3pm, a late lunch by Sicilian standards, we were welcomed with a busy but relaxed family atmosphere and a warm decor of reds and rich browns. The well dressed manager greeted us with a plate of divine appetisers which were skewers of little croquettes and lightly fried prawns with a dip of homemade tomato jam. The menu consisted of sophisticated Sicilian dishes which used local produce with an innovative twist. Spoilt for choice with an extensive selection of appetisers, starters, meat and fish dishes that all looked incredible, we finally settled on fillet steaks with roasted vegetables that were presented beautifully and were cooked to perfection. This restaurant couldn’t be faulted, with great service, fantastic food and lovely surroundings, we will definitely be visiting this gem on our next trip to Palermo.
