The small mountain town of Bivona in Sicily has a population of 3952, sits at the feet of Monti Sicanti, 503m above sea level. Close by at the foot of Bivona is St.Matthias Dam which provides a spectacular view from the town. The architecture in this handsome affluent town is very well preserved particularly the Commune Building which is magnificent. The locals of Bivona are very proud of their famous peaches. These delicious white peaches with their unique taste makes them the primary fruit that’s cultivated in Bivona. Of course the main event in Bivona’s summer is the Peach Festival, which takes place in the last two weeks of August. The locals parade through the streets dressed in traditional costume as hundreds rejoice, enjoying delicious peach dishes and drinks designed by the women of the town, and listening to bands playing traditional sicilian music. The town gives a lot of support for young musicians by hosting competitions for musical bands, from jazz to rock music. Budding musicians come from neighbouring towns to compete and give entertaining nights of fantastic performances. Bivona is a delightful town with a friendly atmosphere and plenty of attractions. A real benefit of the Sicilian mountain town is it’s incredible lake and mountains views.
