Sicily is home to many spectacular beaches. Here you can see some pictures we have taken at these beaches and read a little of what we have to say about them. If you have any pictures which you feel would look good in our galleries or have visited any beaches we have not please feel free to email us and we would be more than happy to include them in our pages.
Eraclea Minoa is one of the west coast’s most popular beaches. It has four beach bars which provide refreshments and music for beachgoers and canoes and pedalos are available to hire out. The sandy beach has a backdrop of pure white cliffs, and a pine wood in which are various rentable holiday villas. A supermarket is nearby where you can get reasonably priced supplies for the day along with various beach paraphernalia. The sea water here is very clear with long sandy shallows stretching gradually out into the expanse of the Mediterranean.
Capo Bianco surrounds the mouth of the River Platani and from this point you can look back inland through the Platani Valley nature reserve. The beach itself is long and sandy and is often frequented by the more liberal of Sicily’s beachgoers. It sits at the foot of some very interesting white rock formations and is undeveloped and not as easy to access as some of the other beaches. The ruin of a beautiful Greek theatre sits on the cliffs above Capo Bianco and there are some very beautiful gardens also. The sunset from this beach is incredible and the views from the cliffs truly spectacular.
Close to the town of Montallegro off the SS115 and between Eraclea Minoa and Torre Salsa is the attractive Bovo Marina Beach. Clean sands and lively beach Bars make this an ideal family beach. There are also very good restaurants here for snacks and seafood. Again this beach has gradual sandy shallows and calm clear waters and is a perfect place to bathe. There are thatched umbrellas to hire outside one of the bars and you can hire a pedalo and take a ride out into the bay. You can take a break from the beach by walking around the dunes and getting the shade of the woods behind the beach. Finally take at seat it at the bar and watch the sunset with a drink to top off a very pleasurable day.
Torre Salsa is a protected nature reserve (WWF) with a wild coastline of interesting and secluded coves, its immaculate sandy beaches. This coastal paradise on the edge of the vast and lush reserve takes you back to nature. A spectacular migration of sea turtles occurs around September and whilst the particular area is closed off for bathers during this period it is a sight to behold from the accessible areas. For peacefull experience this is the beach to bathe at, it tends to have less beachgoers, even in the busiest summer months.
Scala dei Turchi, translated to the Turkish Steps, is certainly one of Sicily’s most beautiful natural features. On the beach stands a spectacular and breathtaking white cliff with a celestial like rock staircase, carved out by the sea. This is where the young and beautiful Italians from all over Sicily come to socialise, sunbathe and dive off the stunning rock formations into the turquoise water. Many Sicilians and tourists also flock to Scala dei Turchi for its special age defying mud. The sandy beach there is just as enticing with its soft sand and fascinating sea-life in its warm, shallow rock pools.
