The charming town of Alessandria Della Rocca was founded in 1570 by Blasco Barresci, the Lord of the Castle of Pietra. He named the town Alessandria Della Pietra until 1862 when it Della Rocca was added to the towns name in honour of the Sanctury of Saint Maria. It is believed that that a statue of Saint Maria was discovered at the rock of the town, leading to the name Alessandra Della Rocca.
Allessandria Della Rocca is situated between Cianciana and Bivona and is 190 km away from Sicily's capital, Palermo. It is 533m above sea level and cattle breeding is a big part of the towns trade as it is surrounded by many large pastures. Alessandria Della Rocca's colourful tree lined main street is particularly enchanting. The bottom of the street provides you with a unique view over the valley where you can see St.Matthias Dam and views of the mountains. The town’s Dolceria sits halfway up the street, where many come to purchase the best deserts in the area. Climbing to the top of the town is breathless yet breath-taking to witness wonderful views of Sicily’s landscape. Alessandria Della Rocca has some charming architecture, many of the buidings built with attractive and antique white stone. The town’s main church, is a perfect display of such architecture. As Ferragosta, the main festival in Sicily, emerges in August the town's citizens ensure their markets are fantastic, the festivities are great fun and their street lights are amazing. With it's architecture and warm hearted locals Allessandria Della Rocca is a lovely little town to visit.
